2009 new stick rule - VIP, READ THIS BEFORE YOU PURCHASE A STICK
FYI...This will be enforced at the varsity level.
everyone should read this before purchasing a stick. Please make sure that if you dont see someone on this list you pass this information along to them.
Thanks,
Coach Davenport
The new rule books are out and this is what they say about the stick rule.
Rule 1-6-4...The player's stick shall not exceed a bow of 25mm, which must be visible and permanently labeled on the stick.
Let's try and be proactive about this and make our coaches, parents and AD's aware of this rule.
See as this could have been an issue since my section plays maodify field hockey
in the spring, I contacted Elliot Hopkins about the stick labels and this is his
reply.
"I am sorry for the stress this rule has caused. As you know the rule has been
discussed and in the rule book for 3 years. We worked through the SGMA to let
the manufacturers be aware of our change. We found out that most of the illegal
sticks were manufactured and sold in Europe.
I would recommend that the girls
with the hand-me down sticks have their parents contact the vendor who sold the
sticks initially. I know that Longstreth places labels on sticks they sold
prior to the rule going into effect.
To answer your specific questions, sticks
that don’t have a label designating the bow of the curve that does not exceed
25mm is not in compliance with the rule and should not be permitted to be used
in high school varsity competition. I hope that helps a little. Keep well and
let me know if I can be of any assistance."
Elliot
Please notify your coaches before the season starts and hopefully this won't be
an issue in the fall. I will speak with the officials.

State Coordinator
***UPDATE***
If you purchase from Longstreth give customer service a call they have labels available. If you purchase from another field hockey store give them a call to find out if you can get a label for your stick.
